Night Navigation

Start your night navigation journey with confidence. Working over easy to moderate, low-level terrain after dark, you’ll learn the core skills needed to move safely and independently when visibility is limited — without relying on apps or technology.

Ideal for complete beginners or those with some daytime navigation experience, this practical evening course is delivered in small groups (maximum 1:6) by fully qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders, with a strong focus on confidence, safety, and real-world night navigation.

What You’ll Learn

Confident use of OS maps in low light
Compass bearings and night-specific techniques
Identifying terrain features at night
Pacing and timing after dark
Safe route selection and handrails
Practical relocation when things don’t go to plan
Managing common night-navigation issues (visibility, fatigue, tech limits)
